Delta CP Meets Oghara Monarch, Stakeholders to Tackle Kidnapping, Cultism

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to strengthening intelligence-led policing and deepening collaboration with traditional institutions, local government authorities and communities to combat kidnapping, cultism and other criminal activities across the state.
The police commissioner gave the assurance during a strategic security visit to Oghara on Monday, where he paid a courtesy visit to the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Noble Oyibo Eshemitan, JP, FCA, the Uku Oghara Na’me, Orefe III, before holding a stakeholders’ security meeting in Ethiope West Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the visit was part of the command’s sustained engagement with traditional rulers and key stakeholders aimed at strengthening community policing and improving public safety across the state.
During the palace visit, CP Oyeniyi commended the monarch for his leadership in promoting peace, unity and harmonious coexistence within Oghara Kingdom.
Following an assessment of the security situation in the area, the commissioner observed that Oghara remains largely peaceful despite isolated incidents of kidnapping and cult-related activities.

He reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on fostering closer collaboration between the police, traditional institutions, local government authorities and communities, describing such partnerships as essential to effective policing.
The commissioner stressed that criminal elements remain a common enemy and called on residents to sustain intelligence sharing and collective efforts to preserve peace and security.
Responding, the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom described CP Oyeniyi as a competent and purposeful police officer and reaffirmed the kingdom’s commitment to supporting the police in protecting lives and property.
The stakeholders’ security meeting brought together the Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Area, Hon. (Pst.) Christian O. Onogba, youth leaders, Presidents-General of various communities, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), representatives of the Arewa community and other critical stakeholders.
Discussions at the meeting centred on the growing concerns of drug abuse, cultism and kidnapping, with participants pledging greater cooperation through timely intelligence sharing, protection of informants and stronger synergy among the police, the judiciary, local government authorities and community leaders to ensure effective prosecution of criminal suspects.
CP Oyeniyi assured participants that the Delta State Police Command would continue to strengthen intelligence-driven policing and strategic partnerships to improve security across the state.
The council chairman also reaffirmed the readiness of the local government to support the police in their efforts to maintain peace and ensure the safety of residents in Ethiope West Local Government Area.
