APPMEN Postpones Obudu Retreat Over Security Concerns, Reschedules Conference for September in Abuja

The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishment of Nigeria (APPMEN) has postponed its planned APPMEN/Content Creators 2026 Two-Day Retreat, which was scheduled to hold from July 9 to 11 at the Obudu Cattle Ranch Resort in Cross River State, citing prevailing security concerns in parts of the country.
The association announced that the event has now been rescheduled as the Aso APPMEN/Content Creators 2026 One-Day Conference, to be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, in Abuja, with the APPMEN Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council serving as host.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Chairman of the Planning Committee and APPMEN FCT Council Coordinator, Mr. Felix Onuah, who said the decision followed a careful assessment of the nation’s security situation.
According to Onuah, the safety and well-being of APPMEN members, participants, and other stakeholders remain the association’s highest priority.
“As proprietors of private media committed to truth and national interest, the safety and well-being of our members and participants remain our highest priority. APPMEN stands in solidarity with all Nigerians affected by insecurity and reaffirms its commitment to peace, stability, and responsible media leadership,” he stated.
The conference will be held under the theme, “APPMEN: Voice, Vision, Purpose,” and is expected to bring together private media proprietors, content creators, and key stakeholders to deliberate on strengthening responsible media practice and promoting national development.
Among the major highlights of the event are the investiture of the association’s Grand Patron, Honorary National Patrons, and The Nigeria We Want (TNWW) Ambassadors, as well as the presentation of National Recognition Awards to patriotic Nigerians who have distinguished themselves through contributions to national development across critical sectors of the economy.

The conference will also feature strategic engagements aimed at equipping content creators and media owners with the tools to shape national narratives responsibly while advancing the ideals of patriotism and ethical communication.
The Planning Committee comprises Mr. Felix Onuah as Chairman, Pastor Bossey Edward Idogho, APPMEN FCT Council Secretary, as Secretary, and Elder David Omoru, the Council Treasurer, as a member.
Onuah explained that the APPMEN National Secretariat will coordinate and supervise the conference to ensure its successful delivery, adding that the newly appointed committee members have pledged their commitment to organising a memorable event.
He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s private media sector through responsible journalism and nation-building initiatives.
The APPMEN official further disclosed that all registrations and partnerships earlier secured for the Obudu Retreat would automatically be transferred to the Abuja conference.
He added that details regarding the venue, accreditation, and participation guidelines would be announced by the Planning Committee in due course.
While expressing regret over any inconvenience caused by the postponement, Mr. Felix Onuah thanked members, partners, and stakeholders for their understanding and continued support as the association prepares for what it described as a strategic national media conference in Abuja.
