“Police Is Your Friend” — Eze Chika Nwokedi Bags Double Police Honours From AIGs in Lagos

By Naomi Onome

Businessman and philanthropist Eze Chika Nwokedi has received double honours from two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in recognition of his sustained support for the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies across the country.

The honours were bestowed on him by AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat and AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom during separate engagements in Lagos on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

Speaking after the awards presentation, Nwokedi said the recognition came as a surprise during what he described as his usual routine visits to police formations to encourage officers and donate operational support materials.

According to Nwokedi, during a courtesy visit to the FCID Annex, Alagbon, AIG Akpanudom openly commended his humility, loyalty and commitment to supporting security institutions without seeking personal favours.

AIG Akpanudom disclosed that he had closely observed his activities over the years and was impressed that despite his relationship with top officers, Nwokedi had never exploited such connections for undue advantage.

During the visit, AIG Akpanudom reportedly invited several commissioners of police and senior officers, including DCP Uche, to witness the presentation of the award to Nwokedi.

Presenting the award, the police chief described Nwokedi as a man dedicated to humanity and nation-building, adding that he deserved to be celebrated for his contributions to society and support for the police institution. He also prayed for Nwokedi and urged him not to relent in his efforts towards supporting security agencies and promoting peace in the country.

Responding, Nwokedi expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing the gesture as unexpected, thoughtful and deeply appreciated. He was honoured for his generosity, support and cordial relationship with officers and men of the force.

The philanthropist further revealed that shortly after leaving Alagbon, he proceeded to the Maritime Command, where he was also honoured by AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat for his continuous support and encouragement to security personnel.

Officers at the Maritime Command further commended Nwokedi’s humanitarian gestures and documented the event through video recordings, with several officers speaking glowingly about his personality and contributions to the welfare of security personnel. Nwokedi noted that the recognition from different police formations reflects growing appreciation for citizens who support and encourage security institutions.

Over the years, the businessman has become known for his charitable interventions, empowerment programmes and regular support for officers of the police, army and navy, as well as vulnerable members of society. He disclosed that part of his support initiatives includes donating useful items such as wristwatches, chargers and other materials to security personnel as a means of boosting morale and encouraging them in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking on the state of policing in Nigeria, Nwokedi maintained that although there are bad elements within the system, many officers remain committed to protecting lives and property. He urged Nigerians to support responsible officers while exposing bad eggs within the security architecture, stressing that meaningful collaboration between citizens and security agencies remains vital to national security.

Reacting to the honours, well-wishers and associates congratulated the philanthropist on the recognition.

One of his associates, Ikechukwu Kabiyesi Agubata Dike of the “Frommetoyou Series” on YouTube, described him as “a man of honour” whose service to humanity has gained deserved recognition.

Similarly, legal practitioner Anayo Ejiofor congratulated Nwokedi on receiving “two awards from two senior police officers in one day”, describing him as “a powerful civilian” and a practical example of the phrase “Police is your friend”.
