The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber and recovered an AK-47 rifle, two locally made cut-to-size guns and three rounds of live ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Asaba.

The suspect, identified as Sunday Nimel, was arrested on October 7, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli, working in collaboration with local vigilantes.

According to the police, the operation followed credible intelligence linking the suspect to an armed robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for several residential robbery operations in Asaba and its environs.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly provided information that led operatives to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate, where the firearms and ammunition were recovered.
