2 min read

In Kano, police have detained 13 people in connection with an attack on Senator Barau Jibrin’s governorship campaign office in 2023.

The campaign office was reportedly set on fire late Wednesday night by a mob of attackers numbering in the hundreds.

Jibrin is a member of the G-7, which is led by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor of Kano State.

Shekarau is at odds with the party’s executive in the state, which is backed by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The G-7, on the other hand, scored a big victory on Tuesday when the FCT High Court recognized their ward congresses over Governor Ganduje’s.

Barau Jibrin, a senator representing Kano North, has his office near Maiduguri road, which is owned by Alhaji Musa Gwadabe, a former Minister of Labour and Productivity.

When we arrived at the office yesterday, we discovered that billboards had been torn down, with some being set ablaze. Despite the fact that the structure was not demolished, some elements of it were burned.

Some office furnishings, such as chairs and tables, were found smashed within the building, and the glass that surrounded the entrance and first level was also shattered. Both the doors and the windows were smashed.

However, security forces have already been dispatched to the area in order to prevent more law and order breakdowns.

In connection with the attack and setting fire to the campaign office, the Kano State Police Command has detained 13 hoodlums.

The criminals were detained carrying deadly weapons and illegal narcotics, according to the report.

Normalcy has already been restored, according to Police Spokesman Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who also said that an investigation has begun and suspects will be prosecuted in court for prosecution.
