The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has endorsed its immediate past Chairperson, Dr Mrs. Adeola Taibat Ekine, for the position of Deputy National Chairperson ahead of the association’s National Delegates Conference and Elections scheduled to hold in Kano from November 23 to 25, 2026.

The endorsement was unanimously adopted at the chapter’s congress on Saturday, October 17, 2026, following the formal presentation of Ekine’s nomination and expression-of-interest forms.
Members of the chapter said their decision was based on her leadership experience, professional accomplishments and commitment to the welfare, capacity development and career advancement of female journalists.
Speaking on behalf of the chapter, its Chairperson, Jumoke Falayi-Johnson, expressed confidence in Ekine’s ability to contribute to the growth and effective administration of the association at the national level.
Falayi-Johnson described the aspirant as a leader who had demonstrated integrity, vision and dedication to the advancement of women journalists.
“Mrs. Adeola Taibat Ekine has consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership, integrity, vision, and an unwavering commitment to the advancement of women journalists,” she said.
She noted that Ekine’s grassroots involvement, two-term tenure as NAWOJ Lagos Chairperson and engagement at the national level had distinguished her as an inclusive leader and dependable advocate for female journalists.
Falayi-Johnson added that the chapter was confident that Ekine would bring renewed energy, strategic direction and unity to the association if elected Deputy National Chairperson.
During her two terms as Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos, Ekine recorded several initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and professional development of female journalists.
Among the achievements highlighted by the chapter was the establishment of a functional creche to support working mothers and encourage exclusive breastfeeding among female journalists.
Her tenure also featured capacity-building initiatives, structured mentorship programmes and advocacy against gender-based violence, child abuse and workplace discrimination.
In March 2024, Ekine represented the Lagos State Chapter at the 68th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) in New York, an engagement that further exposed her to international discussions on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Beyond her activities in NAWOJ, Ekine serves as Head of the Public Affairs Unit at the Lagos State Printing Corporation and as an Information/Public Affairs Officer with the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy.
In October 2025, she was appointed Special Adviser to the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), a development that underscored her involvement in professional journalism administration.
If elected, Ekine intends to promote a modern, inclusive and responsive NAWOJ, with emphasis on strengthening digital skills and creating leadership opportunities for emerging female journalists.
Her proposed agenda also includes promoting transparency, effective communication and stronger collaboration among the national secretariat, zonal executives and state chapters.
The Kano conference is expected to provide a platform for delegates from across the country to elect national officers who will steer the affairs of the association.
