JUST IN: Igbo Speaking Community Council Backs Sunday Udeh, Rejects Impeachment Report

The elected Executive Council of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos State has passed a vote of confidence in its President General, High Chief Dr. Amb. Sunday Udeh, while dismissing reports circulating on social media that he had been impeached and the executive council dissolved.
The council, at an emergency General Assembly meeting held on Monday, September 7, 2026, at the community’s secretariat in Surulere, Lagos, described the purported impeachment and dissolution reports as false, baseless and unconstitutional.
The meeting was attended by members of the elected executive council, community leaders and other stakeholders, including former President General, Chief Chris Ekweilo, and a prominent stakeholder, Chief Agu na Emeudo.
In a resolution reached at the meeting, the elected executive members reaffirmed their support for Udeh and maintained that the executive council, which was sworn into office on September 14, 2025, remained the legitimate leadership structure of the community.
The council accused unidentified individuals it described as “imposters and faceless bandit stakeholders” of allegedly attempting to cause confusion, create division and undermine the reputation of the organisation through what it called a fabricated impeachment process.
The executive members said the reports of Udeh’s alleged removal from office and the purported dissolution of the council had no basis under the constitution of the association.
They therefore urged genuine, card-carrying members of the Igbo Speaking Community to disregard the reports circulating on social media, describing them as an attempt to create unnecessary tension within the organisation.
The council further condemned what it described as the activities of “political jobbers” allegedly working to destabilise the community, insisting that its leadership remained united and focused on the objectives of the organisation.

Speaking during the emergency meeting, Udeh received a rousing ovation from members as he addressed the gathering and reaffirmed the position of the elected executive.
He stressed that the executive council members who were duly elected and sworn into office on September 14, 2025, remained in place.
Udeh, however, disclosed that any member of the executive council found to have participated in the alleged fake impeachment exercise would face disciplinary action after due investigation.
He said the community would not allow individual interests or alleged acts of mischief to undermine the stability and unity of the organisation.
The Executive Council also vowed to take legal action against individuals responsible for what it described as the circulation of false information concerning the leadership of the community.
According to the council, the purported removal of Udeh from office was “null and void,” insisting that no valid constitutional process had been followed to effect such a change.
The leadership maintained that disagreements within any organisation could be addressed through established constitutional procedures rather than through what it described as clandestine actions, social media campaigns or purported resolutions issued by individuals without the authority to do so.
The council appealed to members of the community to remain calm and united, assuring them that the leadership would continue to operate within the provisions of the association’s constitution.
The emergency meeting ended with the executive members reiterating their confidence in Udeh’s leadership and declaring their determination to protect the integrity, unity and credibility of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos State.
