The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, has convened a strategic meeting with security agencies, traffic management officials and road construction contractors to address persistent traffic congestion along the Asaba–Onitsha Expressway, particularly around the Niger Bridge corridor.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the Delta State Police Headquarters in Asaba, focused on measures to ease traffic flow and improve road safety amid ongoing construction work ahead of the festive season.

The meeting was attended by the Delta State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Chinedu Fabian Igbo; the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Charles E. Edem; a representative of the Director-General of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DETSMA); and representatives of the contractors handling the road construction.

Expressing concern over the difficulties motorists face along the busy corridor, CP Erale called for stronger coordination among the relevant agencies to minimise traffic delays and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles.

He also urged the construction contractors to install adequate warning signs, provide clearly marked diversion routes and ensure safe passage for motorists through construction zones. He stressed the importance of working closely with traffic management officials to reduce disruptions caused by the ongoing roadworks.
