Delta Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber, Recover AK-47, Two Other Guns

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber and recovered an AK-47 rifle, two locally made cut-to-size guns and three rounds of live ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Asaba.
The suspect, identified as Sunday Nimel, was arrested on October 7, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli, working in collaboration with local vigilantes.
According to the police, the operation followed credible intelligence linking the suspect to an armed robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for several residential robbery operations in Asaba and its environs.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly provided information that led operatives to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate, where the firearms and ammunition were recovered.

The police said investigations were ongoing to uncover further details about the alleged criminal network and identify other persons who might be connected to the operations.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for the successful operation, reaffirming the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the dismantling of criminal networks across the state.
He also urged residents to continue providing the police with credible information that could assist in preventing crime and apprehending criminal suspects, assuring the public of the command’s determination to protect lives and property.
