Day Two of National Police Week: Delta Police Command Holds Walkathon to Promote Community Policing, Public Safety

The Delta State Police Command today, Tuesday, 31 March 2026, continued activities marking the 2026 National Police Week with a walkathon for peace, visibility, and public safety in Asaba.
The walkathon commenced from the Delta Command Police Headquarters, Okpanam Road, Asaba, and proceeded to the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, covering a total distance of approximately 3.2 kilometres back and forth. The exercise had in attendance officers and men of the Command. Similar exercises were also held across the nine (9) Area Commands of the State.
The exercise was designed to reaffirm the visible presence of the Police within communities and to assure residents that the Police are accessible, responsive, and actively engaged in ensuring public safety. It also demonstrated the physical readiness and fitness of personnel of the Command.
Speaking during the event, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi psc, acipm, mnips, stated that the walkathon underscores the Command’s commitment to community-oriented policing and aligns with the theme of this year’s celebration, “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”
The Commissioner emphasised that the Police are within reach of the people at all times and encouraged residents to support and partner with the Command in the collective effort to maintain peace and security. He urged members of the public to bring forward their complaints and concerns, assuring that the Police are willing, capable, and ready to address such issues professionally and promptly.
