The Annual Ramadan Public Lecture of the pace setting global Islamic society, Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT), reaffirmed the sanctity of human life and the collective duty to protect it. Held at the gigantic Masjid of NASFAT Islamic Center on Lagos-Ibadan Motorway, Asese, framed by the enduring principle that saving one life is akin to saving all humanity, the gathering reflected the Society’s commitment to compassion, moral courage and national renewal during the holy month of Ramadan.
In his welcome address, the President of NASFAT, Alhaji Ayodeji AbdulWahid AbdulRauf, warmly received members, distinguished guests and leaders. He restated NASFAT’s devotion to spiritual growth and social responsibility while commending the planning committee led by Alhaji Sheriffdeen Akinpelu for their dedication, foresight and disciplined coordination in delivering a successful event.
Professor Luqman Adedeji, Head of the Department of Arts Education at the University of Lagos and Branch Missioner of NASFAT’s Ikoyi-Dolphin Branch, led the intellectual engagement. Drawing on the Qur’anic principle of li-taʿārafū, he presented Islam’s moral vision for peaceful coexistence in a divided world.
He explained that diversity of race, language and culture is divinely ordained to foster dialogue, respect and moral accountability. True equality, he noted, is spiritual rather than social, and superiority is measured by piety, not lineage. When lived sincerely, these values reflect Islam’s universal mercy and its vision of humanity as one family under God.
Following this, Dr Abdul-Hakeem Abdul-Lateef, Chief Imam of the Lagos State House of Assembly Central Mosque, condemned terrorism, corruption and civic irresponsibility. He called for stricter adherence to the rule of law and urged journalists to prioritise verified facts over speculation, reinforcing the need for accountability in public life.
Delivering goodwill remarks, Her Excellency, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Deputy Governor of Ogun State, applauded NASFAT’s deliberate commitment to education and national development, particularly its investment in Fountain University Osogbo.
She expressed deep emotion that her father was part of the pioneering journey of the university, noting that its steady growth stands as a testament to visionary leadership and faith-driven enterprise. She described the institution as a beacon of academic excellence and moral discipline for future generations.
Representing the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Kadir Obafemi Hamzat, Dr Tajudeen Afolabi of the Lagos State Government commended NASFAT’s consistent humanitarian outreach and civic engagement across communities.
The lecture closed in a spirit of reflection and resolve led by the Chief Missioner of NASFAT, Imam Maroofdeen AbdulAzeez Onike, who prayed for all attendees, including Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of Osun State. Participants departed inspired to uphold justice, protect lives and strengthen unity, determined to embody Ramadan’s lessons in daily conduct and ensure that compassion remains society’s enduring legacy.
