Eight people arrested as a first-class Plateau monarch was kidnapped on Boxing Day and regained his freedom
2 min readAs the Paramount Ruler of Gindiri in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Charles Mato Dakat, who was kidnapped on Boxing Day, regains his freedom, eight suspected kidnappers have been arrested.
Gunmen attacked the monarch’s palace around 1 a.m. on Sunday and kidnapped him.
A few days later, his kidnappers contacted his family and demanded N500 million in ransom for his release.

However, he was released in the early hours of Friday morning.
Meanwhile, eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of the traditional ruler, according to Operation Safe Haven.
“While the paramount ruler of Gindiri in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Chief Charles Mato, has been abducted, the commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Ibrahim Ali, has placed the troops deployed at Gyanbus on red alert and is on the trail of the perpetrators,” the operation’s Military Information Officer said in a statement.
“As a result, eight suspects have been arrested and are being questioned in connection with the kidnapping incident. Following this development, the paramount ruler was released by his kidnappers early this morning, Friday, December 31, 2021.”

“Operations SAFE HAVEN is still very much on the ground to ensure that all those involved in the kidnapping of the traditional ruler are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement continued.
