Delta Police Foil Kidnap Plot, Arrest Two Suspects and Recover Three Firearms

The Delta State Police Command has foiled a planned kidnapping and disrupted an armed robbery operation, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of three locally made firearms in separate intelligence-driven operations across the state.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operations were carried out by police operatives in Effurun and Ughelli.

In Effurun, operatives from the Ebrumede Division intercepted three suspected armed robbers during a stop-and-search operation along the Garki-Uti Road on August 4. While two suspects—identified as Omelo and Alabanco—escaped on a motorcycle, 28-year-old Benjamin Haruna was apprehended at the scene.
A search of the suspects’ bag yielded two locally made double-barrel guns, 11 live cartridges, one expended cartridge, an axe, a camouflage military polo, and several personal items, including phones and power banks. Preliminary investigations indicate the group was transporting the weapons to a hideout along Sapele Road. A manhunt is currently underway for the fleeing accomplices.
In a separate operation on July 31, operatives from the ‘A’ Division in Ughelli arrested 26-year-old Jeremiah Kwane following credible intelligence regarding a planned abduction. Kwane was apprehended at his duty post after allegedly attempting to recruit an accomplice to kidnap a local pastor and a retired school principal. Police recovered a single-barrel gun and two live cartridges from the suspect, who remains in custody as investigations continue.
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s determination to eradicate kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes in Delta State. He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to assist law enforcement efforts.
