The controversy surrounding former Abia State Governor and current Senator Uzor Kalu continues to escalate, with many Nigerians expressing outrage over his recent comments blaming poor network coverage in his constituency for his stance on electronic transmission of election results.

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate, argues that Kalu’s excuse is not only shameful but also a clear indication of his incompetence and lack of commitment to serving his people.

Iche said,

“Kalu had stated that he was against the electronic transmission of results because there was no network coverage in his constituency, a claim that has sparked widespread outrage.”

“Many Nigerians see his excuse as shameful and an indication of his incompetence, pointing out that it’s unacceptable for a senator to be unable to provide basic infrastructure like network coverage in his constituency, especially after serving as governor for 8 years.”

“Uzor Kalu is a deeply shameful individual in Nigerian politics, characterised as an ex-convict who, due to his affiliation with the ruling party, has managed to evade justice for his alleged atrocities.”

“Kalu’s previous court case was effectively sidelined because of his political connections. He is criticised for being a betrayal of his people, particularly during the 2023 APC convention when he expressed a desire for the presidential nomination, only to ultimately be denied.”

“This scenario is particularly embarrassing, especially considering his public assertions about the lack of network coverage in his constituency, which he claims is a reason for opposing electronic transmission of results.”

“The absurdity of such a statement is coming from someone who served eight years as governor and should have ensured better infrastructure.”

Iche challenges his return to seek another Senate term, questioning his capability to fulfil the role effectively. Overall, Kalu’s behaviour and statements are depicted as disgraceful for Nigeria, suggesting his constituents should promptly recall him due to his incompetence and lack of representation. The source document argues that as a leader, Kalu should be ashamed for failing to provide basic services such as network connectivity in his constituency.

Furthermore, Iche argues that Kalu’s statement is not only embarrassing but also a clear example of the calibre of leaders Nigeria has. He questions Kalu’s ability to represent Abia State in the Senate, especially given his failed bid for the APC presidential ticket in 2023, as many still believe Kalu was given false hope of getting the ticket and is now lashing out due to disappointment.

This recent controversy has led to calls for Kalu’s recall, noting that he’s unworthy to represent Abia State. Iche pointed out that his comments are a disgrace to Nigeria, highlighting the country’s poor leadership.

He reiterates that Kalu’s attempt to seek re-election to the Senate for a third term has also been met with scepticism, with many questioning what he hopes to achieve given his track record. The backlash against Kalu is seen as a reflection of the growing frustration among Nigerians with the country’s leadership and the need for change, Iche added.
