Man arrested for stealing cows, threatened with murder in Ekiti

Shehu Hassan, 45, has been charged with stealing a cow and threatening to kill one Suleiman Mohammed by a chief magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti.

Inspector Johnson Okunade, the police prosecutor, told the court that the defendant stole one cow valued at N500,000 from Suleiman Mohammed on or about December 19, 2021, at about 2 a.m. in Itapaji-Ekiti, within the Ikole Ekiti Magistrate District.

On the same date, the defendant threatened to kill Suleiman Mohammed, according to Inspector Okunade.

He claimed the defendant broke Section 390(9) 86 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State 2012 by doing so.

Tope Salami, the defendant’s lawyer, urged the court to grant bail to his client, promising that he would follow the bail conditions.

Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, the chief magistrate, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in the same amount who must be residents of the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was postponed until February 9, 2022, by the court.
