Why I’m calling for the restructuring of BoT Igbo speaking community—Eze Chika Nwokedi

Eze Chika Nwokedi Ezendigbo Ijegun Ijeododo, Chairman Council of Ezes in Lagos State, on Wednesday, August 20, 2024, affirms stands in the reformation of the BoT Igbo speaking community, advises Jonathan Nnaji, the current assuming chairman, to follow due procedure and stop solo rulership to forestall peace in the Igbo speaking community in Lagos.
He also gave more insights into his claims by alleging that the current self-installed chairman collected the sum of N200,000 into his personal account for a chairmanship election to be conducted last year, not the general account of the Igbo-speaking community. The PG Igbo speaking Lagos Chief Sunday Udeh was one of the few who showed interest in the position and can attest to that revelation. Moreso, Nnaji declared himself the INEC chairman of the election—a further display of a one-man show, Nwokedi added.
Furthermore, Eze Chika said:
“First of all, God gave me instructions to accept the position of Eze to free my people from the level of corruption orchestrated by our leaders.”
“Nnaji is running a one-man show, thereby going against the laws that guide his self-installed position. How can one man be the chairman of three committees of the council of the Igbospeaking community?”
“10 years ago, a certain person (name withheld) offered to buy a piece of land worth over 22 million naira to build the Igbo-speaking secretariat; the money simply disappeared, unaccounted for. We need to ask questions; we also seek credibility.”
“I repeat, that fourteen persons culminated BoT Igbo speaking community; nine of them are late, but five are alive; three relocated to their hometown as they are now above 80 years of age; the remaining two are here in Lagos; that’s Jonathan Nnaji and another who’s now 80 years of age.”
“Jonathan’s response via a publication stating that his predecessor by name, Sir Andy Akagha from Imo State, was the last chairman of BoT Igbo speaking is untrue. The last chairman whom we know is one late Chief Uche Chukwuka, who died 16 years ago, and no other chairman emerged until Jonathan decided to assume chairmanship rather than calling for an election.”
“The other elderly BoT member in Lagos wants to do things rightly but is met with a rebuff from his fellow BoT member Jonathan Nnaji due to a self-centered interest.”
“Many members of the BoT Igbo-speaking community are now late but yet unreplaced; meanwhile, the law states that if a BoT member dies, he should be replaced within six months. It is over 15 years now, and none has been replaced.”
Finally, he noted that his aim for this call is to unite the Igbo-speaking community by crusading for transparency in leadership, as he is disinterested in assuming any position as against rumors of aspiring prominent position, hence his embattlement. The unity of Igbos, he says, is paramount to end rifts and misunderstandings in the council.
