As the 2023 election gathers steam, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) visited Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday afternoon, just after signing the peace pact with his opponents at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja.
The visit took place at Wike’s residence in Asokoro.
A chieftain of the PDP who was part of the meeting said that aggrieved Wike was confrontational, but the former vice-president maintained his calm.
Daily Trust quotes the source as saying: “We were shocked the way Wike reacted.

“The Governor reminded Atiku about their London meeting and the agreement reached, the promise by Atiku that he was going to speak with the National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu to resign, the promise that he (Atiku) will get back to them after a week and how he has not called them since that time.”
After listening to Wike, Atiku promised to consult with his camp before taking any decision.
It is understood that several members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) have agreed that Ayu should resign, but a few others are averse to that demand.
This newspaper reports that the Wike’s group is insisting that they will not participate in Atiku’s campaign activities for the 2023 election unless Ayu, vacates his seat for a southerner.
