Oyo workers shutdown state secretariat over palliatives, unpaid allowances

Massive protest is currently rocking Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, over the failure of Governor Seyi Makinde’s government to provide palliatives for workers.

The Oyo state workers have locked the state secretariat in demand for an upward review of pension allowances and payment of salary deduction.

Participating in the protest are workers and pensioners from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and other affiliates.

Their union leaders and workers are also demanding payment of leave bonuses, gratuities to retirees who have stagnated since the year 2021and release of promotion letters for the years 2021 and 2022.

No government official has addressed the protesting workers at of time of this report.
