Motor bike operators popularly called Okada riders in Ijegun in excitement chant praises and prayers for Eze Chika Nwokedi Ezendigbo Ijegun Ijeododo as he blesses over 20 of them with N5000 fuel for their daily trips on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024. A roasted plantain seller also got an N20,000 cash gift to enhance her business.
Eze Chika has done this for them on multiple occasions, according to the motor bike operators who were amazed by their miraculous gain. They attested that he is the only traditional leader in Ijegun who cares about the needs of his community, particularly in these difficult times, and for that reason, he is highly respected.
A correspondent from Naomisophyblog who witnessed the magnanimous exercise conducted by Eze Chika Nwokedi noted that a piece of paper more like a ticket was given to more than 20 Okada riders to get free fuel worth N5000 from a neighboring filling station.
More also, some persons with gallons at the filling station who had come to buy fuel ordinarily also got free fuel; the motor bike operators task force, popularly known as ‘agbero,’ benefitted, including a woman who sells roasted plantain around the roadside; she got N20,000 as goodwill from Eze Chika. Eze Chika Nwokedi claims he has replicated the act of giving financial support to Okada riders and others who approached him for help multiple times without making an announcement or drawing attention from the media because it’s an act he does willingly and freely. He stated that he never defies that giving tendency and always feels content and joyful afterwards. He said that the act of giving comes to him as a direction and inspiration, especially when his heart is troubled to do so.
He added that he finds some inner peace and contentment in helping the less fortunate through charitable giving. He reiterated that he is offering charitable aid because of the immense suffering afflicting the country, Okada riders have families that they are unable to adequately feed or provide for; therefore, it is worthwhile to give free fuel to create at least a three-day relief support. They can work three days at their convenience and make twice as much money.
Eze Chika said his actions are not done out of abundance but out of little; affirmed he’s witnessed several situations where an okada rider can only afford N1000 fuel at a time, then run along to scout for passengers under the heat of the sun; the feeling of gratitude the okada riders and those in need had expressed will spur him to do more, he added. Meanwhile, the Okada riders who noticed media presence at the filling station expressed their gratitude and prayers; they emphasized that other leaders should emulate this kind gesture towards them, not look down on them like trash.
