On Saturday, November 30, 2024, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Amuwo-odofin Chapter, held an award ceremony and empowered over 100 members with business capital, POS machines, grinding machines, gas cookers, food items, cooking utensils, and other items to help, especially the widows and less priviledged. As an additional gesture of solidarity, food items were donated to numerous households.
The awardees and dignitaries who attended the event include Chief Sunday Ossai, president of Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos (father of the day); Chief Mrs. Violet Obiora (mother of the day); the representatives of May HillTop International School; Hon. Stella Foluke Safilo; Hon. Bruaimoh Valentine (represented); Hon. Folorunsho Ola Western; Hon. Maureen Achara; Hon. George Adegeye Olawande, MHR, Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency (represented by his constituency manager, Hon. Robert Obasi); Ohaneze Ndigbo ACP Eburaja Nwachukwu Gordon of Area E Command, Festac; Eze Augustine Ojukwu Ezendigbo, Amuwo-odofin; and Eze Chukwuakalikamadu. According to the chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo-odofin, High Chief Chikwado Laurence Ezeunara, the award event is conducted to honor and appreciate some leaders who have worked in the interest of Ndigbo and Nigerians in general. Noted that the previous event of this kind was done in 2017, hence the multiple recipients deserving of recognition. High Chief Chikwado, in reference to the empowerment for members, stated that the vision to assist widows, less privileged, and youths is a wish accomplished.
Naomi Sophy Blog observed that May Hill Top International School, as a contributor, gave out food items to beneficiaries, members of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo-odofin empowerment event, as part of a corporate social responsibility. Speaking with a representative of the school, Mr. Mensah Daniel, he, on behalf of the proprietress, Mrs. May Adubasin, commended the effort of the High Chief Chikwado for putting together a gathering to empower widows, the less privileged, and the youths. He says the exercise is in line with the school’s vision to reach out and assist the less privileged in the society as they have just done.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police for Area E Command, ACP Eburaja Nwachukwu Gordon, an awardee at the event, expressed gratitude over the recognition accorded him by the Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo-odofin as well as the initiative to empower members. Says in his tenor as police head in Festac, there has not been any breach constituted by tribes because he advises all Ndigbos to maintain peaceful coexistence with other tribes in Festac and commends Ndigbo for being very enterprising, hardworking, and peaceful.
Hon. Folorunsho Ola Western, who is also a philanthropist, in reference to subsequent empowerment programs and provision he’s made available for the widows and less privileged regardless of ethnicity overtime, accoladed the Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo-odofin for recognizing leaders that have created an impact in the society as well as having the initiative to reach out to the less privileged and widows. He told the press that unity has prevailed so far in Amuwo-odofin amongst tribes as established by the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu, and at the local government level.
Hon. Ola Western expressed satisfaction at the honors given to ACP Eburaja Nwachukwu, Area E Commander, and CSP Balogun, the DPO of Festac, in commendation of their good work in ensuring security and safety in Amuwo-odofin.
The public secretary of Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos State, Mrs. Violet Uchenna Obiora, in her statement to the press, preached unity, love, and understanding amongst the Igbo. She says the act of recognizing the less privileged is a selfless service to society.
The chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo-odofin, High Chief Chikwado Laurence Ezeunara, told pressmen that empowerment is about setting up a business venture for an individual; the idea of giving palliatives to people and calling it empowerment is a wrong concept, for they are exhaustible items. Says Ohaneze Amuwo-odofin chapter has achieved a vision by empowering members with grinding machines, POS machines, cookers, utensils, and cash worth N100,000 to 12 persons as start-up capital, congratulates those lucky to benefit.
High Chief Chikwado also appreciated the effort of Evang.Ebele-Thompson Orjiako — Chairman, empowerment and award presentation Committee, Chief Mrs Hope Eze– Woman Leader Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo-odofin, Comrade Stanley Azubuike,Mr Chigozie Ejiofor — Youth Leader Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo-odofin for their immense contributions in making the event a success.
The highlight of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo-odofin 2024 event is the leadership awards, empowerment of members, and cultural displays.
