The embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has issued a fresh directive to members of the separatist group amid speculations about his possible release from detention.
Kanu, who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), directed his followers to stay on course.
IPOB leader gave the directive through his special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor.
In a post via his X handle on Thursday, Ejimakor noted that he received the directive from Kanu during his routine meeting earlier. He said the IPOB leader commended those who have impacted positively during his ongoing incarceration.
āUpdate: Iāve concluded todayās visitation with Onyendu #MNK. In my company were Barr Mandela and Prince Emmanuel.
āMNK greets the faithful and loyal and directs that all should stay put and stay the course. Heās proud of those that have impacted positively and brought sanity to bear,ā Ejimakor wrote on the microblogging platform.
Meanwhile, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has claimed that the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will diminish the popularity of self-acclaimed Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, and the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the last election, Peter Obi.
Ohanaeze, in a statement by the factional Secretary-General, Isiguzoro Okechukwu, on Thursday, pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to remain resolute in his decision-making process regarding Kanuās release.
Ohanaeze urged Tinubu to shun demands from mischievous Igbo political elites, stressing the credit for Kanuās release should be solely attributed to him.
According to the socio-cultural group, Kanuās release will consign Ekpaās activities in the Southeast to the annals of history and have significant implications for the political landscape in the region.
The statement reads: āIt has come to our attention that certain mischievous Igbo political elites and deviant opportunists are attempting to take undue credit for Nnamdi Kanuās potential release.
āOhanaeze Ndigbo urges President Tinubu not to entertain any visits or demands from these individuals, as the credit for Kanuās release should solely be attributed to him.
āWe emphasise that the effects of Nnamdi Kanuās release will gradually diminish the rising popularity of both Peter Obi and Simon Ekpa in the Southeast.
āAdditionally, from a security perspective, Ekpaās disruptive activities and terrorist tendencies in the Southeast will be consigned to the annals of history.
