The day is set aside to celebrate Yoruba religion and traditions. Isese Day is observed by Nigerian states like Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti and Kogi states to give a sense of belonging to adherents of traditional religions.
Ndigbo in the Ijegun Ijeododo community unite with Onijedodo of Ijeododo (Akoi), High Chief Abu Jelili Ododo, to celebrate Isese Day in a bid to promote cultural heritage.
Ezendigbo Ijegun Ijeododo Eze Chika Nwokedi, accompanied by members of his cabinet, shows support for the Yoruba culture as a non-indigene by observing Isese Day in a grand style and participating in the cultural and religious rites displayed by traditionalists in prayer for peace and unity in Ijeododo.
Onijedodo of Ijeododo (Akoi), High Chief Abu Jelili Ododo, in appreciation of the gesture portrayed by Eze Chika Nwokedi and his cabinet members, affirms that the peaceful coexistence will be continued as he entertained the guests.
Speaking to Eze Chika Nwokedi, who led his cabinet members, including the Obi Udo of Ijegun Ijeododo Chukwuemeka Azuruike and others, he reiterated that August is a month of good tidings after his memorable moments in August. He claims that High Chief Abu Jelili Ododo is a nontribalistic leader and that their friendship dates back more than 20 years, which explains why everyone is witnessing their positive relationship, especially on special occasions like Isese Day.
Eze Chika urges Igbos in Lagos to abide by the rules and regulations of the land by promoting a peaceful coexistence, saying that, in reality, Ndigbos should keep in mind that they are visitors and outsiders in the Yoruba territory and should refrain from inciting any form of ethnic vices or propaganda.
Eze Chika, in his commemoration message, further said,
“Since we Ndigbos came here to live and were welcomed, we should avoid ethnic conflicts, for we are all one. In fact, we all have red blood in our veins; there should be no racial prejudice of any sort, for when a blood donation is requested, the will to survive will not enquire as to whether the blood is from an Igbo, Hausa, or Yoruba.”
“This celebration also holds an appeal for harmony and peace.The Ndigbo people ought to understand that the Yoruba soil must bless them if they uphold the laws of the land in which they currently reside.However, the land cannot be a benefit to you if the intention is to cause trouble and condemn those who are in their father’s country.”
“However, make an effort to be a good ambassador wherever you are.The Bible even says that a man will reap what he sows, so let’s love one another.”
Eze Chika Nwokedi commended High Chief Abu Jelili Ododo for carrying along his community in peace and harmony, prayed for his longevity and urged all to maintain togetherness. Isese Day greetings to all Yoruba sons and daughters.
