NAWOJ Pays Courtesy Visit to the First Female Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mrs. Mojisola Miranda

On Monday, January 20, 2025, the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) paid a courtesy call to the office of Hon. Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, the newly appointed speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, to congratulate her on becoming the first female speaker of the house and to pledge support by promoting such legislative efforts through our various media platforms.
Dr. Mrs. Adeola Ekine, the chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos Chapter, during the courtesy visit on behalf of the association, expressed admiration, solidarity, and support for the new office assumed by Hon. Mojisola. She noted that the emergence of the new speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly aligns with the vision of empowering women and fostering women’s inclusivity in leadership roles.
Dr. Mrs. Adeola Ekine’s speech reads:
“On behalf of NAWOJ, Lagos State Chapter, I bring warm greetings and congratulations to the Honorable Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, on your historic emergence as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.”

“To encourage exclusive breastfeeding for working mothers, we opened NAWOJ, Lagos Daycare, at a rented space in Radio Lagos/LTV premises to cater to nursing mothers in Alausa, Ikeja, Agidingbi, Ogba, and environs to breastfeed their babies in a conducive environment during breaks.”
“International Womenās Day is celebrated on March 8th every year. NAWOJ Lagos will join the rest of the world to celebrate it on the 13th of March, 2025. We would love to have you celebrate with us as our Special Guest of Honor; a correspondence will follow soon.”

As a gesture of goodwill, the NAWOJ delegation decorated the speaker as a āNAWOJ Lagos Championā which symbolizing female journalistās admiration and solidarity to the new speaker, this act underscored the shared vision of promoting womenās rights and leadership at all levels.
Hon. Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, in response to the visit, appreciated the thoughtfulness of NAWOJ in supporting her course and promised to align with the purpose of the visit.
