A woman, Rejoice Timothy Sunday, who allegedly drank Sniper insecticide with her child and both died over a quarrel in her marriage to her husband, Ekene Ukpai, may have her wish to properly get married fulfilled in the mortuary before her burial.
The late Rejoice drank sniper with her child after she failed to convince her husband to meet with her family in order to perform the marriage rites, which reportedly made her to commit suicide.
The incident happened at Papa Major area of Ijegun, Alimosho Local Government area of Lagos, where they reside.
The late Rejoice, who hailed from Akwa Ibom State, came to Lagos and met the man, Ekene, from Ebonyi State and they started living together and had a child.
Throughout the period Ekene lived with the late Rejoice, he did not do any formal introduction to her family nor perform the necessary marriage rites and paying her bride price.
That had been the source of disagreement between Ekene and Rejoice, who could not bear the shame of living with a man without properly getting married to him.
The trauma led to frustration and she reportedly bought Sniper, emptied half of it into her mouth, gave the remaining to her son and both struggled and died.
The family of the deceased reported at the Police at Isheri Oshun Division over the death of the woman and their only son and alleged that it was Ekene that was behind their death based on their previous quarrels.
The Police went and retrieved the corpses and deposited at the mortuary at Yaba for autopsy report.
Ekene was arrested and transferred to the Homicide Department at SCID, Yaba for investigation over the death. He is now facing a murder charge after he told the Police that he was sure they drank Sniper insecticide, which caused their death.
The Police were said to be analyzing to know how and where he was when they drank the substance and equally ascertain if the deceased was assaulted before the issue of committing suicide arose.
When correspondents from P.M Express contacted the head of the family in Lagos, Prince Ukwua, he confirmed the incident and stated that the family wants justice.
He revealed that the family of the suspect wants both families to resolve the matter, which part of the agreements will be for Ekene to get to marry their sister properly in line with their tradition and perform other rites before she and her child will be taken to their village for burial at his own cost.
