Igbos in Ijegun show unity, pay condolences to the Oba of Ijegun over the death of mother, Alh. Taibat Alake Akinremi

As against speculation in the Ijegun community describing the relationship between Igbos and Yoruba as estranged, Igbos in the Ijegun axis of Lagos state dispel rumours, show the strength of solidarity and unity between tribes, commiserate with Oba Nureni Alani Akinremi during a condolence visit over the death of his mother, Alhaja Taibat Alake Akinremi (Nee Olusola), who passed away at age 103 on June 9, 2024, after a brief illness.Â
The visit was intended to show respect to Oba Nureni Alani Akinremi on account of his mother’s demise. As Igbos under the jurisdiction of the reign of Eze Chika Nwokedi, Ezendigbo Ijegun Ijeododo trooped out in their numbers and presented items to show support as the burial arrangement progressed.
HRM Oba Nureni Alani Akinremi, who received Igbos at his palatial residence in Ijegun, acknowledged the love and respect accorded him by the Igbos. In his remark, he advised people, irrespective of tribes and race, to do good in life because, after death, they will be remembered for the good they have done as well as leave a legacy for others to emulate. Bless those who visited, as he wishes them all a long life.
Eze Chika Nwokedi, Ezendigbo Ijegun Ijeododo, who led the Igbos to Oba Nureni’s palace in Ijegun, commended the Oba for his warm welcome and upright nature, described him as a detribalized Nigerian. He assures the Oba that Igbos appreciate his reign for being a peace-loving king who carries everyone along. He advised all in attendance to live uprightly, as death is inevitable. He added that any Igbo person who airs by misguided utterances or irregular behaviour inciting tribal war towards the non-tribe should be reported, as such matters will be treated accordingly.
Chief Ogbuka, who served as the spokes man for Eze Chika Nwokedi’s cabinet chiefs, also gave condolence remarks.

A spokesman from the palace of Ijegun, also on behalf of Kabiyesi Oba Nureni Alani Akinremi, stated that unity will continue to reign in Ijegun, affirmed that Oba and Eze will always work together to keep peace. The Ijegun Palace appreciates the Igbos for their warm condolence visit, he added.
