FHI 360 Alive and Thrive Project Coordinator Commend NAWOJ Lagos Daycare Initiative

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, on Monday, April 14, 2025, played host to Mrs. Toyin Adewale-Gabriel, the FHI 360 Alive and Thrive Project Coordinator from Abuja, during her visit to the NAWOJ Lagos Daycare Centre situated at the Radio Lagos Office Complex, off Agidingbi, Ikeja Lagos.
Mrs. Adewale-Gabriel was accompanied by Mr. Adeniyi Adeyanju, the Executive Secretary of the Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW), a key partner in the establishment of the creche project. The visit was part of an assessment tour of creches supported by NNEW under the Alive and Thrive initiative aimed at promoting workplace breastfeeding and supporting working mothers.
The highlight of the visit was a comprehensive facility tour of the NAWOJ Lagos Daycare, where Mrs. Adewale-Gabriel expressed delight and commended the exceptional efforts of the Lagos NAWOJ Executives, led by its Chairperson, Dr. Mrs. Adeola Ekine. She described the creche as a “model of sustainability and commitment” to maternal and child welfare within the media space.
According to Mrs. Adewale-Gabriel, “It is heartwarming to see that a project that commenced in 2021 has not only remained functional but has become a beacon of hope and support for breastfeeding mothers, the dedication of the leadership of Dr. Adeola Ekine is indeed commendable.”
The Alive and Thrive representative noted that the initiative aligns with the organization’s commitment to improving infant and maternal nutrition through workplace support systems, adding that NAWOJ Lagos has demonstrated the practical impact of such interventions.
In her remarks, Dr. Adeola Ekine appreciated the visit and the continued support of NNEW and FHI 360. She reaffirmed the association’s dedication to promoting a balanced work-family life for women and reiterated the need for more partnerships to scale up similar daycare facilities across the state.
Mr. Adeniyi Adeyanju, in his remarks, applauded the resilience and creativity of NAWOJ Lagos in sustaining the project beyond the pilot phase. He emphasized the importance of institutional commitment and leadership in driving developmental initiatives.
The NAWOJ Lagos Daycare, since its inception in 2021, has catered to the needs of several breastfeeding mothers working in companies around the daycare, allowing them to remain productive while nurturing their infants in a safe and professional environment.
The visit ended on a high note, with a renewed pledge by the stakeholders to continue working together towards creating more inclusive, supportive, and family-friendly workspaces for women across sectors.
