The NNPC has been given approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to enter into an agreement with ECOWAS for the construction of the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline.
Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, briefed State House correspondents after the FEC meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, which was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

According to Sylva, the project is still in the front end engineering design phase, after which the cost will be determined.
The pipeline would run through 15 countries in West Africa on its way to Morocco and Spain.

“Three memos were presented to Council by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
“In the first memo, Council approved the NNPC Ltd’s execution of a Memorandum of Understanding with ECOWAS for the construction of the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline.
“This gas pipeline will transport gas from 15 West African countries to Morocco, and from Morocco to Spain and Europe,” he explained.

The council also approved a N3.8 billion project to build a switchgear room and install power distribution cables and equipment for the Nigerian oil and gas park in Ogbia, Bayelsa, according to the minister.
According to him, the park’s purpose is to support local component manufacturing for the oil and gas industry.
