Dutch Authorities Confirms 18 Passengers From S.Africa Positive To Omicron

The total number of passengers who tested positive for the Omicron coronavirus type on two flights from South Africa last week was 18, according to Dutch health authorities.

In a statement, the Netherlands’ Institute for Health (RIVM) said the examination into passengers on the two flights was now complete.

The flights had already taken off when the Dutch government imposed fresh travel restrictions on Nov. 26 in response to concerns about the newly discovered Omicron variety.

Over 600 passengers on the aircraft were isolated and tested for COVID-19, with 61 of them testing positive, including the 18 who tested positive for the Omicron variety.

Those who tested positive but have no symptoms will be released on Saturday, while others will have to stay in isolation longer, according to the institute.

The number of passengers who will be released from isolation was not specified.
