Chief Sunday Udeh Calls on Igbo Residents for APC Membership Drive in Lagos: ‘Where You Live is Where You Maintain’

The President General of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, Chief Dr. Sunday Udeh, has called on Igbo residents in Lagos State and federally to massively register with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a passionate appeal, Chief Dr Sunday Udeh emphasised the importance of supporting the ruling party in Lagos and federally, citing the need for the Igbo community to align itself with those in power to drive progress and ensure their voices are heard.

Chief Udeh emphasised that supporting the ruling party is crucial for the Igbo community’s progress and influence in Lagos, where they have a significant population. He further stressed that ‘where one lives is where one should maintain and take care of’, implying that Igbos should align themselves with the ruling party, APC.

He lamented that Igbos often neglect registration exercises, only to regret it later, and advised community leaders, market associations, and town unions to mobilise their members to register with the APC. He noted that having a large population in Lagos, estimated at 10-15 million, means Igbos can significantly impact election outcomes if they support a single party.

Chief Dr. Sunday explained that the importance of being part of the ruling party enables Igbos to access opportunities and benefits, citing the example of other states where the non-indigenous do not form opposition parties. He also appealed to the Igbo community’s sense of pragmatism, stating that supporting the APC would be beneficial for them and foster good relations with other communities, particularly the Yoruba, who have accommodated Igbos in Lagos.

The President General urged everyone to sacrifice a few hours to register with the APC, using their National Identification Number (NIN) and voter’s card, and expressed confidence that this would lead to a victorious outcome for the party in 2027. He concluded by reiterating the adage, “A journey of 1,000 miles starts with a footstep,” emphasising the importance of taking this initial step to register with the APC.

Chief Dr Sunday Udeh during his swearing-in ceremony as the authentic President of the Igbo Speaking Community of Lagos State on 24th September 2025, noted that he is stepping into a significant leadership role with a clear vision for unity and progress among the Igbo community in Lagos. Chief Sunday Udeh emphasised the importance of Igbos speaking in one voice, reconciling differences, and fostering togetherness, having faced challenges in the past.

Udeh’s multifaceted approach focuses on internal cohesion among Igbos in Lagos and keenness to respect the host community, Lagos, and its traditions as he advocates for Igbos to be law-abiding and respectful citizens. He highlighted the developmental contributions Igbos are known for, which have been maintained over time.

Udeh buttressed the importance of collaboration with the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, whom he says is supportive of Igbos hence the initiative to urge the Igbos towards achieving a better feat by supporting the ruling party for Progress.
