An incident of boat mishap was reported via a distress call at about 7 p.m. on Monday, October 7th, 2024, at Ilashe division.
Reports made state that two unregistered passenger boats of about 16 passengers on board allegedly collided in the middle of the lagoon at Imore Town, leading to the drowning of passengers and their goods.
As both boats capsized upon collision, a team of conventional/marine policemen, local divers, and other emergency responders were swiftly mobilized to the scene, where 11 of the passengers were rescued with injuries and rushed to the Naval Hospital in the naval town of Alakija for urgent medical attention. Three bodies have been recovered, while search is still ongoing for the remaining 2 passengers.
