Alaka, Otufodurin, Arogundade Lead TPS Conversations on AI and Future of Journalism

Preparations are gathering momentum for the maiden sensitization workshop being organised by The Press Society (TPS) to equip media practitioners, students and communication professionals with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the rapidly evolving era of Artificial Intelligence.
The workshop, scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Ikeja, Lagos, is themed “Balancing Creativity and Ethics in the Media in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.”
As part of efforts to build awareness ahead of the event, TPS has unveiled three distinguished media professionals who will serve as resource persons, bringing their wealth of experience to critical conversations around artificial intelligence, journalism, ethics, professional development and the future of the media.
Three Media Experts to Lead Conversations
Motunrayo Alaka, Executive Director of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ), will facilitate a session titled “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Smarter Journalism.”
Her presentation will focus on the practical use of AI tools for research, news gathering, content development, verification and productivity, while emphasising the indispensable role of human editorial judgment in journalism.
Lekan Otufodurin, Executive Director of Media Career Network, will speak on “Ethics, Credibility and Public Trust in the AI Era.”
His session will address accuracy, fairness, accountability, misinformation, deepfakes, copyright, plagiarism and transparency, with emphasis on how journalists can maintain public confidence in an increasingly AI-driven information environment.
The third resource person, Comrade Lanre Arogundade, Executive Director of the International Press Centre (IPC), will address “Future-Proofing Journalism in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
His presentation will explore emerging skills, career development, innovation, entrepreneurship and personal branding, while examining how journalists can remain relevant without compromising professional standards.

According to TPS, the workshop is designed to go beyond discussions about technology by helping participants understand how AI can be responsibly integrated into journalism while preserving professional ethics, credibility and public trust.
The organisers said the initiative is targeted at media practitioners, emeritus journalists, students and communication professionals, with participants expected to benefit from insightful presentations, practical discussions and networking opportunities.
The workshop also forms part of TPS’s broader commitment to promoting ethical journalism and strengthening community voices, particularly as artificial intelligence continues to transform the way news is gathered, produced, distributed and consumed.
