Land Dispute Turns Violent Again as Ogun Traditional Ruler Allegedly Snubs Police Probe

The Osobia of Ijebu Makun-Omi in Ogun State, Oba Kazeem Adeshina Salami, popularly known as “All Rounder”, has again been accused of orchestrating violent attacks linked to an ongoing land dispute in the Eti-Osa area of Lagos State despite petitions already submitted to the office of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu. It is said that Oba Kazeem snubbed the IGP’s probe and continued with his vehement attack on the victim.

Fresh allegations emerged over the weekend after armed men reportedly stormed a disputed property in Sangotedo, allegedly in search of a property consultant, Mr Stanley Oripelaye. When the assailants could not locate him, they allegedly attacked the estate’s security guard, Afolabi Yisau, also known as “Ijoba”, inflicting serious injuries before fleeing the scene.

The injured guard is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital. Speaking from his hospital bed, the victim alleged that the attackers were led by Chief Abdulsalam Sulaimon, the Baale of Basorun Sangotedo, who he claimed is affiliated with a land-grabbing syndicate allegedly operating under Oba Salami.

Sources familiar with the matter claimed the latest attack may be connected to petitions earlier filed before the Inspector General of Police accusing Oba Salami and several associates of repeated acts of intimidation, assault, destruction of property and threats to life over disputed land located at Sections 13, 28, 43, 58 and 73, Zone 31, Alasia/Ajiwe in Eti-Osa.

In a petition dated October 14, 2025, and written by Kayode Sofola & Associates on behalf of Cosmopolitan Properties Ltd, the company accused five suspects identified as Idowu Hassan; Saheed Abiodun; Abidoye Opeyemi; Segun, popularly called “Obasanjo”; and one Alujo of repeatedly invading its property and attacking security personnel, allegedly on the instruction of Oba Salami.

According to the petition, the first reported incident occurred in June 2025 when the suspects allegedly assaulted the company’s security guard, Afolabi Yisau. Although the matter was reported at Ogombo Police Station, the company alleged that no meaningful action was taken.

The company further alleged that the same group returned in July 2025, physically assaulting the guard again and threatening to kill him if he failed to vacate the property. Another complaint was reportedly lodged at the police station without any arrests or prosecution.

Cosmopolitan Properties also alleged that towards the end of July 2025, the suspects blocked the entrance to the property with a Toyota Sienna vehicle allegedly belonging to Idowu Hassan before attacking the guard and damaging parts of the building. The petition claimed that police officers later recovered illicit substances from the vehicle after arresting the suspects, but they were allegedly released without charges.

The petition further stated that harassment and intimidation continued through August and September 2025. One of the most serious incidents allegedly occurred on September 18, 2025, when property consultant Stanley Oripelaye narrowly escaped after being attacked by armed men wielding cutlasses and daggers on the disputed property.

After failing to locate Oripelaye and the estate guard, the attackers allegedly vandalised sections of the building, including parts of the roof. Photographs of the destruction were reportedly submitted to Ogombo Police Station alongside a formal complaint.

In a follow-up “Save Our Soul” letter dated January 29, 2026, Oripelaye appealed directly to the Inspector General of Police, claiming that earlier petitions had not resulted in a thorough investigation while threats and intimidation continued unabated.

The letter urged the IGP to direct CSP Mohammed Abdulkareem of the IGP Monitoring Unit to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.

The petition also referenced a N350 million lawsuit allegedly filed by Oba Salami against the IGP, Stanley Oripelaye, and others over claims of rights violations, which the monarch reportedly lost on December 4, 2025.

Cosmopolitan Properties is now calling for urgent intervention by the police authorities to protect its workers and property, ensure a thorough investigation into the allegations and prosecute anyone found culpable.

The latest attack on the estate security guard has further heightened concerns among residents and stakeholders over recurring allegations of violent land-grabbing activities in parts of the Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
