NOLLYWOOD ACTOR STANLEY AMANDI DETAINED OVER ALLEGED ROLE IN PLOT TO OVERTHROW PRESIDENT TINUBU
Popular Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanley Amandi has been taken into custody in connection with an alleged coup attempt involving certain Nigerian military officers, a report by PREMIUM TIMES has revealed.
Amandi, who is also a director and a former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter, was reportedly arrested in September 2025. However, information regarding his alleged involvement only surfaced publicly in recent days.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, Amandi was allegedly enlisted by the suspected conspirators to serve as a propagandist within a wider scheme that security agencies believe was designed to illegally topple the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The Defence Headquarters has confirmed that investigations into the alleged coup plot have been completed, noting that military officers implicated in the matter will appear before military judicial panels. The Armed Forces described the actions under scrutiny as violations of established ethical and professional standards.
Authorities stated that civilians connected to the case, including Amandi, will be prosecuted in regular civil courts, while the accused military personnel will first face court-martial proceedings as the legal process advances.
